In August I let you guys decide an entire day for my via Instagram. You could vote for one of two activities for an hour and after that hour I’d do the thing that got the most votes. And among cleaning the house and watching a movie, picking blackberries and making homemade blackberry jam!
I went picking blackberries in the big nature reserve behind our house, which was a lovely activity all by itself. Remember that when you go picking fruit in the wild, you’re not allowed to take more than just for personal use. So a small container is just fine, but an entire bucket is not!
The reason for that is that animals like the same fruits as we do. They usually eat the hard-to-reach ones, but if humans rip their entire living area of food, they’re gonna have a problem. So be nice to nature, just take what you’re going to use and no more than that.
Making jam is very very easy! You just need fruit, sugar, water and a pan with a thick bottom. Homemade jam is so much better than store bought jam, and it also makes a great gift!
The flavours in this jam, and I imagine all homemade jams, is just through the roof! Where most storebought jams and jellies taste like.. sugar mostly. This jam really tastes of fruit. You can taste what fruit is in there instead of just tasting something sweet.
Of course there still is quite a lot of sugar in homemade jam too, but that’s it. Fruit and sugar. No preservations or anything and if you sterilise the jars it still keeps up to six months. What’s not to love?!
